Diff where to get question

PostPost by: PC777 » Wed Nov 04, 2015 10:20 pm

Hi all,

I am progressing through my rebuild of my Elan and have the differential in to some professionals, they have given me a list of bits to get for the rebuild.

It's a 3.55:1 ratio standard unmodified diff, I can obtain everything on the list but I am stuck on one thing.

So my question is: Does anyone know where I can purchase an Axle + Spider Gear Thrust Washer Kit/Set?

Thanks in advance

Burton Power in the UK might be able to help?

http://www.burtonpower.com/crush-washer ... xeng4.html

Here is an eBay Australia link to try as well; it looks like Burton's store for your area?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-English ... SwPYZU6JoX

http://stores.ebay.com.au/Competition-F ... 7675.l2563

I got everything I needed from a seller on eBay.co.uk that shipped internationally, but I cannot find the store now. At any rate, searching on "English Axle" brings up what is available.

I had the diff service done by a local specialist, so I am not familiar with all the required parts. Not sure if by kit you mean just the pinion nut and crush washer? If you can't find a specific item you need Leslie (User 512BB on here) may be able to help you out. He has rebuilt several diffs and may have a better supplier for you.

Pretty sure when mine was rebuilt (with all new bearings and a change of crown and pinion for a taller ratio) the specialist just reused any of the shims, or sourced them from our local transmission and bearing supply house?

Thanks for the reply guy's very much appreciated.

I have looked that these sites and am OK with the bearings & seals its the Spider gear washers I need to replace as the original one has broken in two it appears to be made out of some sort of copper or bronze material and is dished.

I will see if I can find out more from the people doing the rebuild.

Thanks again for your help.

the thrust washers have been unavailable since before 2010. it might be worth trying quaife or 3 j who produce new LSD's. I don't know if they use the conical washer or not

Try Edgar at Fjord Four here in Melbourne 03 9587 1588 - he may have new ones and he almost certainly will have second hand ones.

I am also interested in ordering a diff rebuild kit and have contacted "English Diffs". They do not ship to the US but suggested using a service such as Forward2me. Has anyone had success with this or a similar service? Are the shipping costs reasonable?
Thanks,
Chris :)
