Gearbox breather

How important is the position of the gearbox breather bolt? Mine is in the top right hole on the extension cover plate not the bottom left as I believe it should be. With the oil filled correctly to level a significant amount of oil is blown out of the breather - enough to run down the box and onto the exhaust. I'd just move the bolt but I think I'll have to remove the gearbox mount and drop the back of the gearbox a bit to get the bolt into the rear hole, which i'd rather not do if it isn't going to make any difference. Any thoughts?

Vernon,
The breather was mentioned in this thread wrt a possible contributor to oil leaks:
post153288.html?hilit= breather#p153288
I had found "Ensure that the rear cover is correctly fitted (i.e. vent hole to the rear)"
