Windscreen Wire Thingy On S3 Elan

The windscreen wire thingy on which the mirror is mounted, is it necessary?
If so, how do you replace it?

Yes it stop the windscreen from falling out :o

At speed negative pressure on the roof pulls at the top of the screen frame, the rod acts against this keeping thing together.

Alas I can not help you on how you get to it to replace it :(

Search the Lotuselan Yahoo group or the archives. There was a discussion some time ago on how a few people made thier own from a bicycle spoke with a nut or something brazed to one end.

It is a bicycle spoke that holds the top of the frame from pulling up from the glass from the air preassure lift when the top is fitted..
