Clip on mirrors - solution!

I recently bought a Tex clip on mirror and was very disappointed with the clamping system with the mirror always on the verge of falling off.

Like many others I didn’t want to drill the bodywork for a door mounted mirror. Doing some research it appears almost everyone has a problem with the clamp on mirror. Some have actually drilled into the doorframe which is something I didn’t want to do.

Anyway with some time on my hands this morning I made what I think is a reasonable solution. Using some 1mm stainless which I kept from some recently disposed of house lights I fashioned a wrap around clip. Pictures are self explanatory. I used some butyl double sided tape to hold the small stainless plate which is supplied with the mirror. Also used some tape on my clip which was not really necessary.

The window slide up & down perfectly without me cutting a section out of the window channel. The mirror is now very rigid (within the limits of the door frame) and won’t be falling off anytime soon.

Can’t tell yet re the noise - awaiting a new dashboard before I go for a thrash.

I have the clip-on mirror the same as the above. Never noticed any noise from it.
