Washers between dash and mountings.

PostPost by: JohnMorin » Tue Jul 26, 2022 6:06 pm

Hi

When I removed the dash from my S4 to replace it with a new one I found washers of varying thickness between the dash and the mounting holes. Are there supposed to be washer there? I have good reason to believe that the dash has been out before as a PO had fitted an electric ariel and aftermarket hazard warning lights and butchered the wiring in the process!!

Thanks

My recollection is fibre washers. Pretty sure if you buy new chrome bolts they come with them.

Hi John,

I believe that the washers were used as packings, so that the dash was flat when the screws were tight.

Hi

I do mean behind the dash not under the screw heads. I did wonder whether they were packing. Looks like I have a fiddly job working out washer thicknesses, any tips anyone?

Thanks

My dash has packing washers behind the dash. I put it down to, err, variations in S4 body molding as with door fit, etc. I'll bet S2 don't have the problem!

Next time I remove the dash I think I might spend the time to re-glass the bobbins so that washers aren't needed - in my case it's just the top two that would need attention.

I figured out the washer thickness by trial and error. It was indeed fiddly. I guess you could squeeze some putty in a trial fitting and then measure the result.
