Attaching Under Dash Trims to the Dashboard

PostPost by: gav » Mon Apr 17, 2023 3:56 pm

Haven’t had my dash off for a while now so I suspect it is due.
Taking the Velcro theme a stage further, would it be possible to stick it to the back of the dash and the upright part of the ABS moulding. It will have the effect of bringing the curved edge of trim closer to the dash but it wouldn’t be set low?
One day I'll actually finish - completely - one day....

That’s an interesting idea: I am happy with Velcro, but indeed the two velcro tapes make the gap between dash and trim too broad. I will try this and will let you know about the results……

I am struggling with this issue at the moment too. I am planning to follow the inserts route, but does anyone know if the position of the fixings is marked/ standard as I do not want to put a hole in the wrong place. It's a replacement dash so it may be that part of my difficulty is holes in the wrong place.

And as a note about originality - when the car came back from the restoration it had 1/2" long brass slotted countersunk wood screws holding the trims on. I cannot imagine how they fitted them.

I now have fitted the Velcro to the upright section of the dash trim and to the rear of the dash respectively. Works very well and the gaps between dash and trim are much tighter. Of cause the Velcro is no longer visible on the edge of the dash. The self adhesive tape of the Velcro I used tacks phenomenal to both ABS and wood.

For anybody considering Velcro for this job, this seems the way to go.

Bon weekend!
