Do the screws that hold down the crash pad grille go into the fiberglass beneath the foam or
do they simply just go into the foam? What was factory?

On my S2 and S3, the ones at the front (close to the screen) went into the GRP, The ones at the rear had flat speed clips, which were accessible through the radio aperture.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks Rob. So the ones at the rear didn't go through the GRP and the speed
clips were up against the foam?

I think they did. I'll pull the radios out of my S2 and S3 when I get home and send photos. I'm away for a few days.

My car is an early S4 with the S3 dash pad grill. A previous owner was rough, and had put screws through the grill that had destroyed both the foam and g.r.p. I don’t remember exactly how I managed my repair, I made some brass nuts, they had to be a strange shape as the surface they bear against is not perpendicular to the axis of the screw. I bonded the nuts in place (can’t remember the adhesive I used) I used small stainless machine screws with heads painted black. I found the whole grill fitting process difficult, should have done this before the windscreen went in.

Hope this helps,
