Screen rubber exfoliation.

The 20+ years old rubbers appeared fine prior to removal, immediately on being stressed during the removal the surfaces including glass channels became covered in sticky white skin.
Cleaning using available products in the house including white spirit is time consuming, messy and only partially successful.

Can anyone suggest a product or method to successfully clean or am I chasing a dead horse?

Any reason for not just replacing it?

Rubber ages, shrinks and dries out by default I'd just replace it at that age to save me having to deal with issues later.

None other than they both seem perfectly ok, apart from this issue., Still flexible with no cracking.
The “growth” on the outer surfaces is quite sticky and on the inner glass retaining channel it flakes off when the rubber is flexed ... makes a real mess
