Hi All,

I hope someone can help identify the parts pictured please, there are 4 in total and they were fitted into the rubber outserts. They are off a late 63 S1 Elan that's been in pieces for many years.

They are used to hold the lower door panels and alloy strip that separates the rubber mat from the paint on the rear bulkhead.

I've only 4 off the car which suggests the door panels as a start, front and back of the lower panel, does any one have a good picture, I recollect the 26R register had the unmolested S1 pictures including the doors.

Any idea of a source???

The holes on the alloy strip are all countersunk and diameter of the holes in the shell are to small for the nutserts these use.

The screw heads are incorrect, much later style.

But, yes, the rubber part is used for the door cards and fibreglass thingy, and metal finishing piece on the B pillar.

The rear trim is held in by countersunk screws, no rubber insert.

Agreed the screw heads aren't right.

The rubber parts are often found on motorcycles, but at least in Europe, they seem to be metric, but does it really matter? I sourced imperial ones from the US.

I have a virtually one owner from new S2, it uses them on the rear decking - probably just a running production change.

@Mazlot - is that the old Bill Gates car? What happened to the back end? You did a great restoration job on it. I still have the tool kit

they are used to hold the rear trim piece but with countersunk screws and a smaller version, I believe. Have heard them called "nutserts" and I can buy them at my local hardware store. As you tighten them the nut inside pulls the rubber against the panel and holds the part.

Thanks, I have imperial and metric nutserts. All the S1 and 2 elans I restored have used them for the rear alloy trim, to hold the rear view mirror into the screen frame and screen frame to body on one of the cars and various other parts. On the doors I seem to recollect they have counter sunk bolt and cup washer.

I've not found them in doors, generally I've found the split leg metal rivet nut type that spread "legs" over a larger area as they are tightened. End game is same.
