Europa TC Special body removal

PostPost by: Mrozik » Mon Nov 02, 2020 3:52 pm

HELP PLEASE

I've just purchased a '73 Europa TC Special in urgent need of a complete restoration.Unfortunately I haven't been able to locate any detailed instruction on the best way to separate the body from the chassis. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance

have you read the shop manual?

There is nothing tricky, just need to remove steering column, master cylinder, water lines, clutch cable, wiring.

Bolts at front and rear and bulkhead.

Might have missed a few things but not many.

As above, it's not particularly difficult but it does pay to make your own list and tick off things as you go. You can see the chassis/body bolts in the manual and after that it's just making a list of things which come from outside to inside... for example

1. handbrake
2. steering
3. brake pedal to master cylinder
4. radiator connections (incl. heater hoses) because the steel transfer tubes are inside the chassis.
5. Clutch/throttle/choke/heater/speedometer cables

There's probably far more to list, that's just a starter. You would probably be much better off asking the question on the Europa forum rather than this one. Try here...

The members are mostly from the USA although we have several UK members on there (I am there as EuropaTC) and it's a very friendly forum with many of the guys doing their own restorations.

Edit to add.... from the Europa documentation site, one guy's take on body removal with notes & pictures.

It's been close to thirty years since I changed the chassis on my old Europa Special, but aren't there only six or eight bolts that hold the chassis and body together? I remember thinking it was a lot less than on an Elan.

I took one apart may years ago & missed the heater hoses inside the cabin,

The other item I would mention is that you way need to move the bobbins attaching the chassis to the spine to line up the body properly.

There are eight bolts holding the body to the chassis.

You will find my 101 tips on lotus europa .com....
