not quite : there is a rotation between bolts and bobbins (one each side of the pods) when one lifts up or down the headlights

But the Helicoils are meant to block in place, not the Screws.
If Helicoils are fitted then the Stainless Screws will only have thread contact with Stainless Helicoils won't they.

No more than the original Screws.
For info:
if the Helicoils are assembled correctly it should be done with a coating of a special Grease (it's like a mix of Lanolin and Alachrome). This stops any action between the different metals and is what we used in the Aerospace Industry.
Sorry i can't remember the name of the special grease. It was a long time ago.

Hi Alan,
That suddenly makes a lot of sense.
Back in the 60`s we assembled outboard motor aluminium cast parts with stainless steel screws.
We were young apprentice engineers going diving and could not afford new engines. We bought dead ones and repaired them.
Each screw was coated in lanolin and I never had any trouble taking them out again. And that was intended for immersion in sea water.
We did not understand galvanic action then. We just did what others said.

Eric & Alan,

Thanks for the information. When I was an apprentice with GEC we had a marine division, I remember working on some equipment for refuelling ships at sea, and the aluminium casting had helicoils fitted as new. Like Eric I did not understand that these helicoils may have been coated with a lanolin grease, and just assumed that if it was good enough for the admiralty then it must be ok.

Alan,

I started work for GEC 1967 at the Erith factory (Erith was in Kent at the time but has now become part of the London Borough of Bexley) probably best known for steam turbine, we were making turbines for Drax while I was there. GEC Erith was previously known as Fraser & Clalmers, and made all sorts of things we even had a nuclear division, but it was the mining, materials handling and processing divisions that lead me on to spend most of my working life in the Chemical Industry.

Lovely to meet someone with a GEC background.

Drax is a power station here in the UK. At the time I worked for GEC (General Electric Company) Drax was the largest coal fired power station in Western Europe, we were manufacturing 660 megawatt generating sets, I don’t remember how many sets went into Drax. I think the power station has since been converted burn wood pellets.
