Hi Phil, sorry to be a pain but I am confused as to how the screws miss the glass when they are on the inside. Would it be possible for you to take & send a photo looking from the rear of the car looking closely at the mounting on your car?

Go on - take courage - drill the holes!! They are there for the life of the car so why not? :roll:

Thanks for the new photos, now I see that the clamp goes completely around the frame. I will have to check if there is enough clearance on my car to mount one of them.

there is that, and the weight of the mirror : I have installed a driver side mirror on an E-type that way, and it took several attempts to get it to hold (an anti-slide material had to be glued on both sides of the window frame, too). If the car is exposed to vibrations (potholes etc. ), the shorter the leverage of the mirror to the fastening point the better.

Well Gents

I have to dismantle the doors and check them out anyway so I will door mount a rear view on the drivers side -- the window frame mount is (and looks) to tacky.

All the frame clamp ones seem to have some compromises one way or the other. I have resisted for 51 years drilling holes in my car to mount an outside mirror, I may live with it for another few years.

I have been thinking for a while now that there should be a way of using one of the small cameras for a side mirror. I don't have the technical knowledge to build a system, maybe somebody in the group has that knowledge? A very small camera would weigh almost nothing & would be easier to build a small, light mount for it, than the heavy ones needed for the mirrors.

On the type 26 there is a rubber sealing strip on the front side of the window channel and on the glass side, a small lip to retain the window felt. obviously you can't bridge the front side and I wonder if the Jaguar mounting is thin enough to not impede the glass when slipped between the felt and if it will clear the retaining lip. I may have to contact the distributor directly to find out. I hate to spend the money on freight even if I could return it. any ideas?

On the +2 there a little trim piece at the front bottom corner of the window. Part 15:

I've used the screws for that to mount a Ali angle piece with mirror attached to it. Only worked for my drivers door as could get suitable adjustment on the passenger door mirror to see anything useful.
