Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try using an oilite bushing -- seems like a popular upgrade for the pedal bushings on other cars.

I think I'm going to cut out the old piece of tubing that the pedal and throttle cable arm were attached to, redrill the parts for a 1" tube and weld them together, then use an oilite bushing in between the tube and the shaft. Will post the results of my experimentation.

I'm tempted to just try to source an LHD box, so as to have the proper gas pedal, but this might work just as well and be a lot cheaper. Didn't really notice any downsides to the hacked-together pedal arrangement -- a little cramped, but seemingly doable.

Check out bronze bushings.com. I've use them for several projects the last few years. No affiliation.
