S2 Glovebox strap?

PostPost by: 661 » Fri Jan 03, 2020 6:48 pm

What stops the glovebox door from over opening? Is there a strap?
It's the piano hinges I am interested in.
The example below is of the corner hinges and I guess they have a self limiting stop.

Yes there is a plastic strap. One end fixes to the side of the door and the other to the back of the dashboard where it's highlighted on the picture:

Thanks Paul.
The loop for the side presumably looks the same as the one on the back of the dash? Did you happen to find a supplier?

Agreed.
I think I'll try to pick up a rubber 'rod' for want of a better description

Yes, the loops at each end are the same. I haven?t searched for this part and I?ve never seen them for sale on any of the usual suppliers for Lotus or other classics. Making something that looks similar might be your best approach.

The S1's and S2's had the rubber with the hole at each end as in the picture. I've been wanting to make some for years as all my early cars need one. I'll look into having some made.

Good pic Paul!!
