S4 interior door handle rock rod clip?

I pulled my drivers door apart to fix a rattle.

When I went to put it back together I noticed that the rod for the lock that goes into the top of the handle has no clip holding it in. And I dont see where there could have been one.

Can someone post a pic or tell me if there was a clip on that rod.

I can confirm that on the S4 that the door rod lock end that goes into the interior lock ?flap? has no locking clip like other rod ends. It just slips in.

Should be a reasonably good interference fit such that it doesn?t tend to disengage.

I just ran into that on my S4 having taken the door panel off. When I put it back on the rod kept coming out of the lock flapper, couldn't get it to stay in place. I ended up drilling a couple small holes in the steel handle housing that allowed me to put a zip tie around the rod to keep it engaged. Sacrilegious I know, now there's one more thing for the next custodian to mutter about the DPO!

The locking flap is not handed and has holes in both ends for the lock rod so it can be swapped between left and right handles if the hole becomes worn. It's held by two small roll pins and you should only need to remove one to be able to wriggle it out of the handle frame. The pins are in blind holes so don't try punching them out!
Also check the bend on the end of the rod where it inserts in the flap ... it needs to be at right angles to the rod.
