Spyder shipping cost?

I am returning to the Lotus fold after a 45-year break. (I know, I know -- I somehow lost my way over the years.) Anyway, I recently bought a Plus 2 project and will be needing some help from the forum as I get it back on the road.

For starters, can anyone tell me approximately how much it will cost to ship a Plus 2 Spaceframe chassis from SpyderCars in England to Southern CA? Just a ballpark figure will be helpful. I searched the forum, but there are no current posts on this topic.

Thanks.

I'm sure Spyder could give you a price if you ask them - drop them an email at [email protected]

Thanks, Matt Elan, I tried that. I sent an email to [email protected]" target="_blank and got no response. I then sent another email to [email protected]" target="_blank and [email protected]" target="_blank, two other addresses on the spyderscars website. Again, no response. That was over a week ago.

Is everyone in England taking off to watch the rugby world cup? :)

I got a quote through a independent shipping agent six or eight months ago and it was about $900 (EDIT: I looked it up and it was ?800 to Boston) inducing crate (I think Spyder does their own crating) and delivery to the terminal. Sen me a PM and I'll give you the details if you are interested.
I got a "used" chassis from New Jersey that turned out to be quite new, never used ad simply sitting under the body without ever having been drilled for the mounting bolts, so I never ordered the one from the UK.
Spydercars seems to prefer phone calls and does not always return emails. Their system does not accept Skype and I do not have an international plan so that is a pain for me.

I inquired a few months ago directly with spyder. It can take them a few days to get back to you.

Crating was around $400 and shipping was an additional $800 ish to east coast port - going from memory here.

OK, good to know. Maybe I'll hear from them yet.

I appreciate the crating and shipping info. Thanks.

I got a very helpful reply from SpyderCars today and wanted to update this topic in case someone is looking for this info in the future. I had asked Spyder two questions: 1) did they know of any issues with a tallblock (711M) and their Plus 2 frame, especially hood clearance, and 2) what, approximately, would the shipping costs be to ship the frame to Southern CA. Here is their very helpful response:

[Begin quote]
Sorry for the delay,

With our spaceframe it`s easier to use the tall block as the steel fabricated engine mounting we use to bolt to
the engine, allows for slotting to Move the motor.
Also when fitting with standard block or tall block the body height at the front should be raised to get the
bonnet clearance before drilling and tapping the new chassis to body fixing points. This is done by shimming between the body and chassis pads. (as instruction attached)

The BOCH002 is ?1895.00
We use a timber crate for safe shipping ?398.00
Shipping ocean to door to door estimated shipping cost ?800.
To nearest port for collection estimates ?400.00

Import taxes depend on local normally quite low I believe as it`s a classic vehicle in most states.

If I can be of any further assistance please do nor hesitate in contacting me.

Regards
Sean

Included in the email was a .pdf with chassis fitting instructions. If anyone would like these instructions, PM me.
