Cirrus White Paint Code

Folks,
The guy painting my Sprint is having difficulty in finding the mix for Cirrus White, I have given him the codes from the Sprint webpage

PJ 6170X0540 , ICI P0309049 and Autocolor 9049, but he is drwing a blank in trying to get it mixed locally. Are these codes working for the rest of the UK contingent, or is there another code or alternative modern white being used?

Cirrus white L04 is the easiest / most common colour to get hold of, the only problem comes when you are trying to get it mixed with a paint scheme that doesn't go back into the 70's.

We use Spieshecker and we have 7 shades of Cirrus white. If your struggling i suggest trying a different paint manufacture.

Phoenix doesn't have anything past mid 80's

I'm not in work until next Monday so won't be able to get you panel numbers until then.

You should be able to get Cirrus white using Lotus L04 from any half decent paint supplier, you may well find it more difficult to get it mixed in Spies Hecker if you don't have connections with a supplier (it's sold as tinters you use with a scheme so won't sell you premix in most cases)

I know Lechler, Prospray, ICI and Dupont are able to mix it straight off the scheme but i've noticed Churchill, Mobihel and a couple of others can't mix it because they don't go that far back.

Don't bother with the codes for the original paint, they are panel numbers for schemes long since banned thanks to lead regulations.

Interesting question this. I considered painting an S4 Elan I restored in Cirrus White. However the Lechler paint (from nearest local paint supplier) came out a very creamy white (nothing like my Sprint) so I did it in BRG instead.

I thought once you gave a code all paints could be mixed or am I wrong in thimking this??

cheers
Mark

I bought my L04 Cirrus White cellulose paint from Autopaints in Brighton. They are specialists in Classic and Vintage paints and even though I had to buy another 2 litre tin to finish off the repaint of my S2 the match was perfect.

Have found a specialist here, picking it up this afternoon, it seems the normal motor factors that can mix paint don?t have the classic stuff in their computers.

Try Glasurit; they have Cirrus White listed as L04
Here are other codes: PJ 6170X0540, ICI P0309049, PPG LOT0053
The later Lotus paint code: A036B6318V
I have an S1 Elan also in Cirrus White, as well as a S2 Elite in Cirrus White.
Most of my manuals are in storage right now, but the early Elite manual listed the colors, and I think the S1 manual does as well.

were you thinking of a water based paint?

if not and in case of any use, I went 2k VOC for my '68 s4se, using Standox sent from Germany, their paint system covers the Lotus codes I've used so far (L09, silver fox metallic for bumpers etc. were even freely accessible online not so long ago)

I would think a good paint shop should be able to mix a Lotus formula, or at least find someone that would know how to proceed, it's not that ancient and Lotus codes show in many quality brand color tools.

Thanks guys

I got 2k LO4 at Coach Finish in Belfast, so all sorted and now in the hands of our painter, so hopefully going on the shell soon.

Cheers
