I removed the windscreen from my Elan today to allow for further paint stripping. Mastic has been used at some point, perhaps to seal leaks, but looks awful.
It?s a little scary how little strength there is in the screen frame !!

Here?s the video?..

No kidding! I was shocked as well, absolutely no strength there, made me want to put a roll bar in.

Quite a lot of work David...dangerously heading towards a full restoration!

I'm currently rebuilding a S1 frame for my S2 and plan to strengthen it as it is laughably fragile but surprisingly light and still intact - all suggestions will be noted and appreciated !

So far I have in mind embedding a perforated steel strip to the rear using fibreglass matting (taking inspiration from the front subframe skid attachment of the Lotus Elite).

Well done - a video of the windscreen going back in would be most interesting

The rear suspension/ gearbox/ fuel tank are stilll in at the moment but will all be coming out/of at some point, so it is heading to a full restoration.

There will at some point be a video of the screen going back in (should be fun) but I may have to get myself a bleep machine.... Watch this space.
