I?ve bought a new tunnel top which needs to be covered. However having stripped the old cover off the old tunnel I notice that the new tunnel has a large recess each size that the old one did not. The car is fully stripped and at the paint shop so I can?t take a look at it. My question is, what are these recesses for, and does the leather cover need to follow their contours precisely or just be able to deform into the recesses?

Hi NYK, I believe the recesses are to allow the seat belt fixed ends to clear of the side of the seats.

Thanks Richard, so I?m guessing from that, that the covering needs to closely follow the recess contours.

Seat belt area of +2S130, expect older cars trimmed similar.

My one is pretty far gone !

I bought mine last month from Kelvedon Lotus ?141 including VAT & delivery.

The recesses were incorporated when Lotus started fitting the modern style seatbelt 'stalks', to still allow for the seat to be tipped forward. Sometime in 1973 I think.

If you have the aircraft style lapbelts the recesses are not required
