Seatbelt bolts

PostPost by: kevin61 » Sat Dec 01, 2018 3:42 pm

Hi,
I am in the process of replacing the seat belt on a 73 Elan, the lower bolts (particularly the outer side [drivers side]) are really difficult to undo and I am reluctant to use to much brut force. Can anyone tell me if it is purely the pick up point for the seat belt or is it anyway part of body/chassis location point? Also what kind of assembly is the bolt going into, given that it is a seat belt fixing point!

Your help will be much appreciated guys,

Cheers,
Kevin

The seat belt anchor point is just a threaded sleeve welded into the metal lattice work of the sill. The lattice is fibre glassed into the body but it does not form a body mounting point.
You can see the lattice work in this thread and the anchor point is in the bottom corner.

Thank you Brian,
Really helpful and reassuring so brut force should not be an issue (I hope!)
Thanks again Brian.

Forgot to say that the inner anchor point bolt does go into the chassis (subframe  ) but does have to be removed if lifting the body although again it is not a body mounting point.

Great, that's really helpful, as I have to take them both out.

So although they are being stubborn, should it should be fairly straightforward, and does it not affect any other part of the car?

Thanks again, Brian, I really appreciate your advice/guidance.

No....... seatbelts or no seatbelts only effects your relationship with the law
