Plus 2 S front screen fitting

I naively assembled my repainted Plus 2 S (50/2054) with the old screen rubber and the screen, thinking I should fit the trim later. This is the type with the rubber seal (I understand it came from the Consul Classic) with the broad stainless steel trim strips in 3 pieces (with joiners middle of top and at the bottom corners).
Before using too much force I'm going to source a new rubber, and a similar part is re-manufactured in Australia and stocked by the Consul owners club.
A few questions:-
- has anyone used the Consul owners club rubber seal (and did it work)?
- any advice on fitting the screen? At the NEC exhibition recently a Zephyr owner with the same system said he had assembled the trim and rubber, and then fitted the screen from the inside of the car using string to ease the rubber over the glass. Sounds terrifying unless the rubber is really soft.
- finally ..... My car originally had steel clips which fitted inside the trim at each bottom corner of the screen. The steel is long since no more! I don't think they are available. Can anyone describe them so I can try to make something up?
Any advice gratefully received.
