Good day People
I am in the process of assembling my Sprint doors. The interior door handle has a flip lock made of plastic in its construction.
Unfortunately the plastic part of mine had broken, at the hinge pin.
I located a replacement damaged handle with the part i need in good condition. however the part I need had to be extracted from the rest of the handle. This proved to be very dificult, the roll pins used in the part have seized solid. Ive tried everything to remove them, to no avail. The body component was such a tight fit that i could not prise it apart to remove the locking plate, I had to grind back the pin with a pointed burr to extract the plate. Now of course there is no "meat" left on the roll pins by which to attempt extraction. Ive tried stud extractors but ther is no grip.
Has anyone had similar experience and sorted the issue? If so can you please advise.
Alternatively, doe anyone know of a source for the errant part?

The usual suspects also list replacements although they are a little pricey.

MGB handles are very similar.

Quite a few BL models had these. The elan version requires the back plate to be removed and some new holes to be drilled in the main pressing - easy to do and takes 30 mins tops then you can simply replace the whole thing. They pop up on ebay as cheap NOS often and I have a bag full. All my restorations get new ones as the originals are usually rusty and the plastic brittle. Can't possibly be worth the time trying to repair an old one, surely?

Will it tap or press out with a parallel punch inside it?
Presumably not as later posts point out that there are 2 short pins rather than 1 long - which makes a lot more sense.

Rod clips are common to the Reliant three-wheeler range and much cheaper from those sources than elsewhere...

In case anyone else needs to remove the locking flap ...... there are two short roll pins in blind holes and they should pull out easily with a small pair of end or side cutters. It's only necessary to remove one then there's enough clearance to wriggle the flap out of the frame. The flaps are not handed and I swapped mine left to right as the holes for the lock rod had worn oval.

Perhaps a self tapper and pincers will do the trick?

Finally managed to remove using localised heat, then, as described by Roger, pulled the other with end cutters. What a bugger though, they took some shifting! Although Im trying to use all the original parts, I must admit I'm tempted to get the MGB version, because one of the holes is slightly enlarged (Localised heating collateral damage) and it looks like ive got to tap out and use screws to act as the pivots.
