Windscreen Rubber

PostPost by: 1owner69Elan » Sun Jul 15, 2018 6:10 pm

(To not hijack my earlier thread re clear vs tinted windscreens, I moved my question regarding windscreen rubber to its own topic.)

Besides sourcing the windscreen, I just have discovered the "controversy" regarding the windscreen rubber lower corner mitres.

I had purchased a windscreen rubber from TTR a couple years back in anticipation of at least replacing my original brittle rubber one along with the discolored trim locking piece. The TTR piece appears to have the dreaded 90 degree angle lower corners. I haven't tried to use it yet but I can see that it looks like its not going to be as good as the original with some probable buckling/separation in the lower corners.

Is there a current supplier that provides the "best" screen rubber. A previous thread from a couple years back indicated that PM then had produced new rubbers with the proper angle and better fit. Any update or concurrence with that? In the older thread some members had decided to even fabricate their own to get the proper fit.

I just bought and installed a Sue Miller w/s rubber, very pleased.

I had bought one stateside some years ago, it was horrible, not even close to being right.

Susan Miller gets hers made a little larger than original so the glass goes in and the frame is filled completely.
I got one from her last year and installation was straightforward.

AWere the angles correct on Sue?s windshield rubber?
I had one in the past for an S4 coupe and it wasn?t perfect, not that any were at the time.

Yes.
Everything went in fine - she even lends you a fitting tool if you ask!
Getting the trim round the corner took a bit of effort of course.
