Number plate

PostPost by: Mick6186 » Tue May 29, 2018 9:08 pm

I wish to replace the Black on yellow rear number plate on my 1973 +2 with a plate that is more 'in period'. I wish to fit the correct design of plate. Do I need a pressed plate or one with riveted plastic figures. White on black or silver on black,
Thanks for any advice,
Mick.

My ?72 rear plate is original - and is black raised letters on yellow background.

So I suggest yours is already correct

Agreed - at that time reflective yellow was current.
You can now have a 'black' plate if you want.
The ribbed aluminium inside acrylic look very smart but are far from cheap.
I expect you have to have same style front and back so you'll need letters on the grille.

Not period correct as 1973 M reg (yellow and black by then) but I prefer this look plus since 2015 it's now legal, mind you never got pulled over between 2013 and 2015 just smiles and saves from the boys in blue.

Black painted aluminium, with plastic white riveted letters

From 1 January 1973 (as described on the home page of Lotus Elan Sprint) these became mandatory and were fitted on the back. Jim
