PostPost by: zimzum » Fri Apr 13, 2018 1:49 pm

Hello,

I have come body parts ready for paintshop tomorrow, but the painter told me he can't find the proper colour code for Lagoon Blue in water base paint.
Any of you know a really close colour in this type of paint?
If someone resprayed his Lotus in Lagoon blue recently, what reference did he use?

Thanks for your help!

Also known as Scandinavian Blue - a Volvo colour; also Rolls Royce and Royal Enfield colours.

PPG Code 0225

Hi There

From my info, Lagoon Blue was the same as the Roots / Hillman / Roots /Talbot colour of the same name. I have an obsolete Valentine reference number which is 30376 if that's any help

Scandinavian Blue is different (it's ref being 37233) and was a later colour

Regards Andy

Is it the year of manufacture thats the issue? (most colours past the late 80's weren't converted to Water) Do you need to use water? because you could just use a decent quality Solvent Base coat which go back much further than Water.

Personally i don't like using Water on Classic cars (the colour often looks too metallic and clean) but most good bodyshops will tint a colour for you or have the ability to have a colour tinted by the manufactures (at a small cost) either way if you go down that route make sure you get the formulation and what it's been formulated in.

Thanks for your replies!
Well, the painter found a similar blue, which to me looks way too modern but... well, it's done.
Problem is that he only uses water base paints.
I'll see later if I respray the blue areas.
He has been able to sample the white paint, but I didn't have a blue part so he could create the proper colour.
