Door Handles

PostPost by: Concrete-crusher » Sun Apr 08, 2018 11:05 am

Hi

On the S3 FHC are the door handles the same as those fitted to an Austin Morris 1100

They look the same

Mine are a little pitted and buying new old stock looks cheaper than re chroming

Thanks Steve

Steve

Sorry - cant remember the source of the handles but you do need to re use the inner part of the handle - the part that triggers the door lock on the inside of the door so don't chuck it.

I am after a pattern of these so when you remove them, if you could take a set of dimensions and let me have them I'd be very grateful.

If you need help with my description, let me know and I'll try to communicate better (!)

Many thanks
Gavin

Steve,
They are sourced from the 1100, but need adapting. Brian Buckland`s book has a section on it, Obsolete parts, pages 81,82 and 83

Eric

Do you know if anyone has made up the obsolete part per chance?

Thanks

Sorry, no. I just remembered seeing that section in the book.
The whole chapter is about obsolete and hard to find items.
Cheers

I'm happy to take some pictures and dimensions. I have ordered the Austin 1100 handles so should not take too long.

I'd be interested to see a scan of the pages referred to above if available.

Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve

What I'm after is the dimensions of the fabricated lever on the back of the door handle that engages with the lock - activated by turning the key.

I anticipate it to be made of mild steel and will comprise a tube with a bent arm welded to it. The bent arm locates in the oblong slot of the door plate. This is the part I need to fabricate.

Thanks again

I think you mean the remote arm. It is from an Morris 1100, front door (Source: Buckland), and it is bent "somehow" for the Elan.
Edit: and cut and welded, and holes drilled.

I thought it was just the door handles you wanted.......
or do you need the whole mechanism?......
the handles are just a straight swap provided everything else on the door works......
