Willem, I remember my headlight lift spring was somehow pulled through to the opposite (rearward) side. This was prior to installing the links as my original ones were perished (brittle original plastic ends), so when I went to install new replacement links with metal ends, I found the spring sprung with lever toward rearward of car. it actually, with sharp right angle edges, made a dimple mark on the fiberglass from underneath on the bodywork forward of the bonnet. I had to muscle the lever back downward 180 degrees and forward, in order to hook up the links and have everything working correctly. All this to say, you need to have the lever arms forward, not rearward facing. I hope this makes some sense.
