Here is an estimated retrim quote

Hello folks, I thought I would make a small first contribution to this forum. I am looking to purchase a +2S and wanted to explore the likely cost of a full retrim....in case a car came along and needed one. This guide cost was from www.theseatsurgeons.co.uk.......
As a rough idea, you?re looking at ?6,000 + VAT for a new carpet set and full retrim in vinyl. If this was in leather rather than vinyl, say around ?6,500 + VAT. A replacement headlining would be about an additional ?600 + VAT
These figures are based on a car ready to retrim, but don?t take account of additional preparation works ? e.g. the seats might need rebuilding with new foams etc, or door cards and other panels need remaking prior to being trimmed.
Basically the Elan +2 can be quite an expensive car to retrim ? by Lotus standards it has quite a complex interior with lots of things that need to be trimmed. Also, off the shelf trim kits are not available, and so everything has to be done on a bespoke basis which adds to costs.

seems real big money for england if you ask me: 1/2 should be more than enough. i had my two elan seats (s3) done(incl. foam and internal preperations) in bavaria for 550euro in AMG leather as the bloke said. i'd go and see a vanden plas specialist near you instead of the flashy place you went to. i once had a swiss specialist (spoiled by making ferraris for 20 years) give me a quote (we once worked on the same cars and his claimed his price was "amongst friends" !!) and it reminds me of yours: 3000 sfr - sandy - alps

You might try Spyder to get a quote? I was speaking to them about some work and they mentioned that this was part of their offerings.

Thanks for the input guys....useful.
In summary, sounds like total cost of retrim should be around ?2.5K to ?3.5K

Option 1 in Bromsgrove have also started a re-trim service, they say they can do it with 'correct materials'. Wether that would would include oatmeal Ambla would be interesting to know.

As far as I was aware, the Oatmeal Ambla trim hasn't been available for a long time, which is why I mentioned it. That is I mean in the original grain, as Phil found out with the black stuff too.
Did you find the oatmeal stuff in it's original pattern or just the same colour but on some other vinyl?
I should say this is purely academic for me - I have black leather in my car!. I did own a Plus 2 with oatmeal once though, cloth inserts too, and it's sorely missed.
