The Story so far, are you sitting comfortably?
I removed the exhaust side mounting today, and I have to say it doesnt look too bad except there may be a difference of about 3-4 mm in relative height. ie the original is bringing the engine 2-4mm lower.
Anyway, cognizant of the words of wisdom on this forum regarding the heat emenating from the exhaust down pipes and despite the fact ive had them ceramic coated, I decided to make a heat shield for the mounting. I happened to have some self adhesive asbestos tape and an odd piece of copper sheet in my "materials store" see below:
My next step is to refit it and then for the interesting bit....the carb side.

Will I be able to judge the metal removal amount required to lower the carbs to 10mm clearance and move the gear lever sufficiently far away from the chassis?

This installment available because the missus threw me out of the house to get stuff ready to go over to help my son. (I wanted to help honest!)
Anyway in this thrilling installment the new N/S TTR engine mount and the heat shield I fabricated are installed.
I have to say that I recon the missus put a curse on me because I'm useless at helping her get things ready! Refitting was a Bast***d, took me 2/3 of the day.
Anyway its all in now and guess what...... Ive gained some space round the gear lever - not much, but alls welcome, and the gradient acrposs the cam cover has reduced fro 1 in 15 to 1 in 26 reducing from 1cm to 6/7mm.
So the old original engine mount was part culprit.
Next Ive got to replace the carb side mount, but not for a week or so.
So, my profound thanks to all whove helped me

Why have your nuts turned green, surely they should be red on the port side

That should do the job , aluminium or is it brushed stainless ? and "asbestos" type material ?

Shouldn't be long before someone comes back with , " why have you put your mount in an oven ? "

That's good to hear, let's hope that the other side does the trick or at least gives you the opportunity for some more adjustment.
It is strange how new parts can give problems we didn't have before though isn't it?

Ah John, yee of little faith.
See photos, its fabricated from 25 thou copper sheet. The "asbestos" is something I blagged a long time ago when I thought it might come in handy to wrap the manifold in! Its a reel of self adhesive "knitted" insulating material. I tend to hoard anything and everything that might be useful.

I paint each fastening with a smear of green so that I know its been tightened to the correct torque. My memory isnt to be trusted!
Its a habit i picked up in the aerospace industry, where every soldered joint that passed inspection was given a dab of tint.

Glad to hear that you cured this with new mounts and a bit of 'fiddling'

Still got to sort the gaiter restriction tho. When i finally got it central I needed a break from gear levers!!!

Where were you in the Aerospace industry, i was in QC at Marconi Defence Systems Portsmouth.
