Is there any special trick for removing these arms?

Put the arms in the up position, then wiggle. Then curse a lot when they won't come of...

P.s. They just spines, so once the arm us up you could lever them careful. Probably crusted up.

Mine have a little spring latch underneath the cap that covers the splined shaft. Kinda tough to see. Crank the arm up to 90 degrees and look under the cap. It needs a small screwdriver to pry the latch away from under the splines.

Without the latch the arm could fly off.

As above, it has a little latch that sits in a groove in the wiper mechanism spindle.

Sorry not the best picture but you can see the latch under the arm pivot, you need to carefully put a flat blade screw driver between the little latch and the wiper spindle then gently leaver up to release.

I tend to use a flat blade screwdriver a lever it off (carefully) :D

Aren't those pullers for the more modern type of wiper arm with a nut/stud fixing in the centre?

I assumed because Rimmer Bros were selling them, they would be for older wipers, but yes, I think you're right...screwdriver it is then

I have a few of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOJO-Plastic- ... xygPtS8i3Q they are good for removing trim etc without leaving witness marks but i'm not sure it would be strong enough to move the little latch (worth a go though as it doesn't tend to leave big scratches if you slip)

A couple of layers of masking or insulation tape around the end of a flat blade screwdriver can be a useful tool... something to take the edge off.

Thanks guys; I never spotted the latch. I'll give that a try soon. You've probably saved me damaging something!

They came right off and I'm pleased to report that the splines are in excellent condition!

Follow-up question: is there supposed to be a gasket or seal of some type between the escutcheon and the body?

Yes there is supposed to be a rubber seal/washer.

I bought mine from Rimmer Brothers (Same as the a few Triumph's) or the kits can be found at all the usual suspects or ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINDSCREEN-WI ... SweW5VHR1~

I suspected as much. There was nothing under one and some chalky black residue under the other that I figured had once been some kind of gasket.

Looks like I can get the gaskets from sources here in USA for about a dollar a piece but then another nine dollars for postage! Bloody hell, as small as the things are they could just put a couple of them in a letter-size envelope with a single stamp.
Lucky me though; today I was poking around the shelves in the workshop at the office and found some black sheet-rubber that had been left over from something long ago and never discarded. I'll make a pair of gaskets, FREE!
