Name That Wing Mirror

PostPost by: Stevie-Heathie » Sun Nov 20, 2016 9:56 pm

Watching the documentary about the Elite restoration The Lost Lotus Restoring a Race Car and I'm rather smitten with the wing mirrors they've fitted. Reckon they'd look great on my S3.

Look "flatter" than Raydots to me.

Any ideas what these mirrors are. (Photos taken of the TV screen!)

Best
Steve

There is a similar looking mirror in the Holden web catalogue:

I name it "the wrong one". If the aim of that restoration was to put the car back to Motor Show condition, it did not have any wing mirrors. It still did not have any wing mirrors when raced by the Chris Barber team, even after they fitted the Costin nose and removed the bumpers and indicators.

I bought a very similar Raydot mirror from Les Leston about 1971.

I dont know about UK / FIA rules but in Australia you need to have 2 rear view mirrors at least to race in historics these days

Thanks CBUET yes that's very close. "ITAL" style they call it. As featured on Pooches of the 50s and 60s.

UK MSA rules dictate that a car must have two rear facing mirrors for historic racing, so they had no choice.

Everything was very different in Chris Barber's racing days!
