Paint code

Gentlemen,

I'm in the process of preparing my +2 for paint and I'd like to paint it Glacier Blue.

I've found the paint code of PPG 14170 but while my local paint guy can find the code on his computer, it doesn't give him the formula to make it.

Does anyone have the formula or the code of a similar colour?

Thanks

Paul

I also choose this colour. And I paint the car in Ice blue metallic (the same colour as Austin Healey). Somone says that glacier blue and ice blue are very similar.

That is an Opel color. The code for Opel is L205. It was a single stage so your body shop may not have the right cross reference formula due to his suppliers only providing Base Coat/Clear Coat.

Here is a cross reference chart I found a link to from the Opel forum:
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?code=L205XX&manuf=GM&rows=50
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/paintdetail.cgi?ppg=14170

Good luck

There are many similar colours and shades of this example but glacier blue, sometimes known as ice blue for the Plus 2 is a period Ford colour. I know this for certain as we had quite a time sourcing the correct paint.
Modern cars including Lotus Elises etc have glacier blue, but it is a different shade.
The correct (period) colour for the Plus 2 is Ford XSC 1690C and although there are many PPG, ICI, even Lotus codes, it is the Ford code that will get you to the correct 'shade' of glacier blue.

Something is wrong with the Ford Code. Is a modern reference (1982-1984).

Yes, don't be fooled by the year, it's a general age figure but it is definately the correct code for the Plus 2 period.
I spent quite some time getting this right and was given many alternatives, but 1690C is the right code.

Or at the very least if he gets you to use the same color he can reference yours as a validating example of the original.

Off the lighter side, we had a 1965 Falcon that was this color when I was a pup. Didn't look nearly as good as the +2, and the lousy stuff flaked off in chunks when the car was only a couple of years old, but I think it establishes KevJ+2's point that this is period Ford.

My father solved the problem by getting a bunch of those vinyl "hippie flowers" you see on VW buses of the era and sticking them on the worst bits. The car was even more awful than it looked and he traded it on a burgundy '67 Mustang hardtop that was worse still. Wish I had that crappy '67 now so I could sell it on to someone willing to pay a fortune for a not very rare but highly desirable example of Ford's less competent creations.

Thanks guys.
I'll drop in and speak to my paint supplier and see if he can find the formula.

Update,
None of the codes above worked with my paint supplier.
Spend a bit of time searching and came up with a DuPont code that is listed as correct

Code is 757325
