Hi All,

The existing backboard is covered in the original carpet. Im not sure if it will survive having the carpet removed.

It would be easy enough to make a new backboard from hardboard, but will it take being bent?
Are new ones supplied flat or preformed?

No. but it isn't going to match the rest of the carpet which will be new as it has fallen apart.

Sue's replacements are GRP, same for the side covers.

I removed the old carpet without any problems & recovered it with new carpet.

I don't know if Masonite is called Masonite on your side of the pond, but it's a good product for this application. You can get 1/8" panels, it's moderately waterproof, and you can bend it without it cardboarding. It's what most cars use as a backer for upholstery.

GRP is lighter, but costlier I suspect, and messier to make if you can't just go buy it.

I got a large sheet of black Millboard as used originally from Woolies Ltd in Peterborough. They will also courier it to you. It bends and cuts easily.
