Those were not *quite* my exact words when I reversed out of the garage with the bl**dy door open this morning.

Could have been worse. The lock and handle and hinges are fine. The door still hangs well.

Looks like I'll be returning to Lakeside Engineering sooner than I thought.

Any guesses for how much to put right?

And until I get it repaired what should I do? Is it worth trying to "seal the wound" as it were with paint or wax to prevent water ingress?

I have half a tin of paint from when the car was resprayed last year.

I would not put any greasy material if yo want to seal it (hindering subsequent paint prep), short of polyester to hold the piece in place you may use 2 part epoxy (you could even paint over the fix if you want to hide the flake that is gone)

I did a similar thing about 10 years ago to my Porsche 944 Turbo rolling it out of the garage, still makes me sick thinking about it...

this is definately not the case for polish or buffing BUT is any of that crunchy stuff is still "stable", so you can peal or tear the rest off? the rest could be both sides some of that plaster/fiber/polyester canned stuff, wait, sand down, filler, more sanding --------------------------- to the painters`! that's the cheapest: otherwise its the old grinding, preparing for actual laminating etc... --- take it here, i'll show you what i mean! sandy

White packing tape will do the job of holding it together and disguising the damage until you can get it fixed. Quick, easy and cheap

Realised I forgot to follow up. The nice guys at F B Coachworks in East Molesey did the business. Reasonable rates, good quality repair, very helpful and friendly. Recommended should you ever need bodywork sorting.
