Where is the chassis number stamped on an Elan 1600

Sandy, that is your car's Unit No.

What Gary, five and a half years ago, was referring to was a chassis sequence number, in all probability used by the firm who were building the early Elan 1600 chassis for Lotus. The sequence numbers were not used as any form of identifier by Lotus for the Elan.

Like Vic 45/7576 is stamped on the offside chassis located under the steering column

Car was registered as export but never madevit out of the uk , no idea why , unless it snuck back

the last S1 I completed which still had its original chassis was an Aussie delivered S1 it was stamped 260429 in front of right hand engine mount.
