Door facings panel/cards - refurbishment service?

PostPost by: jono » Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:53 am

My door facings are in very poor condition - carpet rotted and cards disintegrated but the black vinyl is probably salvageable.

I think this is one job I may sub out - does anyone know a good trimmer for this service?

Or.. does anyone have a pair of black door facings going spare (for reasonable money  )?

Cheers

Jon,

Talk to Sue Miller - although she does not offer a retrim service herself, she recommends a chap called Adrian Read (I think), who is an ex Lotus employee. Not seen any of his work myself, but might be worth giving him a call.

Cheers

Jon,

I have just sent the top metal channels to Adrian to have the door cards made and trimmed. Should get them back in a couple of weeks, I will post some pics then.

Chris, do I have it right that Adrian will essentially be making totally new cards for you and completely trimming with new material including new vinyl and carpeting?

thx

Hi stugilmour,

Yes you are correct, he is making up new cards complete with vinyl covering and carpet. The only part he cannot source is the metal channel that hooks over the door at the top of the card. I had to strip mine out, repair the rust damage and then paint, then send them to Adrian. I was also asked to include a small sample of the original covering to use as a match, I am assuming that Adrian will be trying to get vinyl as close to the original if the original is not available.

I sent them off just before the Easter break so should hopefully get them back in a couple of weeks, I will post a couple pictures when I have them.

Thanks for posting Chris. Those look great. Excellent match on the original textured vinyl.

Hi,
Have you Adrian's Contact details please?
I'm nearing the end of the restoration on my +2 and some trim work would set it off nicely
(I found one trimmer local to me in Leigh On Sea, his quality was fantastic but he was expensive)

Hi Chris,

Would you care to frighten us with the cost?

Here is another picture of the one of the door panels fitted, and Sako, the panels were ?120 for the pair :D . The only addition to this was the postage needed to send the metal channels to him and postage for the door cards back to me, about ?20.

Nice one Chris, and that price seems very reasonable to me. :D

We could still do with his contact details though, if you don't mind posting them up. I'm sure he'll find some business going his way.

Cheers Chris, I'll drop him a line.

Out of curiosity, what was the turn around time to get the door cards done?

Cheers.
