Hi all,

I was talking with an elan.net'er offline recently and I thought most people knew that the original type door seals were readily available but it appears not.

I bought a full length for a dhc for about ?30 from www.autoregalia.co.uk (although it's not listed on their website), and it's available readliy on Ebay, eg- http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... Categories

(See the last few at the bottom of the 1st page onward) just search for car door seal
There's a couple of different sizes so just check the size before you buy.

Thanks Mark. Can you provide a pic of what you purchased from autoregalia? The last several on the ebay list are close and look better than the bulb type but still not like the original (for an S4, anyway).

I have followed the links and searched through the listings but I cannot for the life of me see a correct original seal - any chance you could post up or email me an item number? I seem recall the correct original seal has a woven fabric part to it - again is there any chance you could post or PM me a good close up photo of what you have bought? I'll be well chuffed if its available again as this must be one of the rarest parts for an Elan thesedays.

Here's a cross section view of the original off my '72 Sprint. As Steve indicated, it is fabric covered and the flap is rubber, not foam.

Hi Greg,

hard to see in your piccie (nice slippers by the way!) but has the rubber bit got a metal insert in it to help it grip the door lip. If you have access to the trim again could you post a sideways on pic of the fabric pattern?

No slippers; that's my pants leg The rubber bit/flap has no metal in it. It's seems to be bonded to the U shaped piece, which has metal in it. Hope this helps. Looking at a getting it repro'ed?

I certainly didn't know that the correct door seals are available so this is welcome news. The stuff I've been using for the last 15-20yrs, supplied as "the best we can get" from one of the main dealers fits over the lip on the door ok but the rubber seal is a few millimeters too thick and the doors only shut correctly with a little more force than I'm happy with. The seal in Greg's picture looks about right from memory (my old worn out original seals are tucked away in a loft so not to hand for a direct comparison) but as always the devil is in the detail. If anyone has got to Autoregalia before me and has a stock or part number for the seal that would be appreciated.

I have been looking at this door seal from Woolies trim, has any body tried it?

It has an open flap like the original, but no fabric.

i used the same seal on my 1972 Elan Sprint fhc and i found it very good. It doesn't put too much pressure on the doors

Keep going please. I am watching and listening as I want some too. Is it correct that the seal goes all the way round the door opening, across the top of the screen and round the other door space all in one piece.
I only know that mine is not right.

The seal I bought is as per Jas' s piccy, (ta for posting the pic)

I'm not saying it's exactly the same because it's not, as it's not got the fabric on it. It is however the correct profile rather than the tube type so at least you can get the door shuts right!

The auto regalia strip I had was listed as AR _TRIM_SIDEFLAP1 (rubber car door seal edge trim)and was ?4.07 per metre. I got a long 5 metre strip for an S4 dhc which fits fine. Auto regalias phone number is 0191 2618488

At one point, I sent for a sample, which was the closest to original that I have seen so far. It wasn't fabric and rubber, but the profile was exactly right. Very thin.

5 metres is nowhere near enough for a DHC to do in one complete piece - I'd have thought 6.75 metres to be safe! (It is approx. 21.5 feet around).
