rear trim around rear screen

The second rebuild of 50/1017 continues. Today rebuilt the rear parcel shelf, and reminded myself of a problem I encountered the last time around - about 20 years ago.
The rear quarter panels fasten via the fitting which acts as a coat hanger as you know.
They extend back to sit at either end of the rear parcel shelf.
However they are not designed to fit close to the ends of the rear screen apperture, and there seems nothing to hold them even within about an inch
of the vertical (well, sort of) part.
Could some kind person look into the rear screen and tell me what they see between the extended quarter trim on each side, and the end of the screen itself.
Is there a gap of almost an inch?
Is there some sort of infill?
What am I missing...............now for the second time. Last time I solved the problem with a bit of black felt, bridging the gap between the apperture and the trim so
that it all looked neat looking through the rear screen at its ends.
Regards, Bill
