Lotus Elan and Lotus Elan Plus 2 Forums

In the late 1960's Camay, the soap brand, had two S3 or S4 Elans made at the factory and painted in the brand colour of ..... pink. This may appeal to some listers but it was not a factory standard colour!

Susan Miller remembers speaking on the telephone to someone who owned one, but much later on, and the colour had been changed. No surprise there, really.

To give you an admittedly somewhat vague idea of the colour, and for those of you too young to remember, I have attached a photo of some bars. Now, anyone recall these cars, have a photo or worked on the advertising shoot?

Never seen a pink Elan but I have seen a pink Spitfire and I don't mean a Triumph.

There is a well-tried method of seeing pink ELephANtS I believe...

I imagine that they were Coupe's, to get the full impact. Do we know if they were?

On that subject:

Gervase owned one of those fresh seafood restaurants, you know the type where you go in and choose your fish from the tank and it is prepared for you there and then. Well Gervase?s fish supplier came in to restock the tanks one day looking all dishevelled and rough and proceeded to put this vile looking green squid into the fish tank. Gervase looked at the squid and complained to the fisherman that he wouldn?t be able to sell such an ugly looking thing saying ?its so ugly its even got a moustache?. The fisherman said ?look I?ve had a bad day, I?ll make it up to you next time? and that he could have the squid free of charge.

Well Gervase was right and the squid took up residence in the fish tank and whilst all the other fish were chosen by customers, prepared and eaten the little squid remained untouched. Eventually Gervase had even become fond of him and treated him like a pet.

One day a bunch of yobs came into the restaurant and ordered their food, one of them demanded the squid. Gervase tried to explain that it wasn?t for sale and that it was more of a pet but the yob persisted and under threat of having his restaurant smashed up Gervase removed the squid from the tank and took it to the kitchen to prepare it for cooking.

Gervase placed it on a chopping board raised his cleaver but the little squid looked up at him with a mournful tear in its eye and Gervase could not deal the fateful blow. He turned to Hans the kitchen porter an ex german paratrooper to come and prepare the little squid. Hans too raised the cleaver and again a tear welled in the eye of the little squid and Hans could not do the deed either. Which all goes to prove:

Thank you for posting that.

DVLA list that Elan as having last been licensed in 1989, having first been registered on 29 Jan 68, in Swindon. So it is probably languishing in someones barn, waiting for the 'back to original' resto!

sorry to drift off topic but "Elite Lotus" is a new one on me.
Was it a club magazine or something which could be bought at a newsagent etc.?
Can you tell me what the magazine was all about & for how many years it was printed?

Back on topic, it seems that the original Pink car has been unearthed. Or maybe not??
I'd definitely re-paint it pink; then put a Zetec in it

I have 7 copies of Elite Lotus from Issue 1 Summer 1992 to issue 7 Spring 94. Cant remember exactly but I think it was a subscription based mag and either I stopped subscribing (unlikely) or only 7 were produced.
I have just found them in the loft mixed in with the other junk (Lotus 7 magazines Club Lotus etc)

Only Miles Wilkins strikes a chord amongst the listed freelance contributors but no doubt a number of the names will be known to other more knowledgeable forum members.
