Strange sticker on Elan S4 windscreen

PostPost by: stevebroad » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:37 pm

S4 DHC Elan in "The Executioner" starring George Peppard.

I caught this film last week on TCM. More shots of an Elan in one film than in the whole series of The Avengers! Check it out. There was even a Plus 2 in one scene :-)

One question. There was a black and white sticker on the screen on the driver's side. Approx 100mm x 125mm. It said LOTUS and underneath in large capitals were the letters OR.

Any idea what this is? My thought is that it might be something to do with the car being hired to the film company.

Couple of thoughts.

At various times the factory had qulity drives. Might the O in fact have been a Q? If so, I would guess it could have something to do with 'quality'

My other thought is that it is some oddly placed dealer sticker.

Hello,

as far as I know, QR means "Quick Response". At least the job as a Quick Response Officer is quite common in bigger companys.

But does "Quick Response Assured" make much sense?

The page (once enlarged) refers to the "quality and reliability programme in the Lotus organisation". "Quality and Reliability Assured" makes sense even if the words "quality", "reliability" and "Lotus" don't seem to belong in the same sentence.

That's the one! Reflection on screen disguised the tail of the Q.

Well done all :-)

Hi Everyone

Just joined the site and looking through the postings, the QR Assured project, one of my jobs at the factory was to stick the QR and the Special Equipment decals to the front and rear screens. One the the pluses was I always had some in my toolbox, they are now somewhere in my loft.
Does bring back memories

Welcome 'Team Lotus'!

I was not aware that there were SE window stickers; SE wing badges yes, but not the stickers. What did they look like?

Which years were you at the factory? What jobs did you have? I have an ulterior motive in asking!

Greetings Team Lotus,

Get ready for a question, or three....

There may be other areas that you can help with.

Cheers - rd

Thanks for the welcome...
I'm sure quite a few of you will know me, I take folks around Hethel on factory tours, also coordinate the driver training days and corporate events. I also help Clive over at Classic.

I joined Lotus in 68 as their first school leaver, Ted Eliot, who was a family friend took me on. My two brother worked down in Cheshunt from 66. I left in the mid 70's into the sales world selling office equipment, and now run my own company coaching people in presentation skills which took me back to Hethel in 99. I was always amazed what was thrown away...old photo's, brochures and even a Jochen Rindt steering wheel that for some reason I sold a few years ago!

Back to the stickers, the SE sticker was put on all SE cars it was about 8 inches long, each end had the Lotus roundel with World Champions 63 and 65 and Indianapolis Winner 65. The middle was green with Special Equipment in white. A few years ago I took some of my 'stuff' to show Graham Arnold who said he had forgotten them, and this is the first one he had seen and said I should have some copies made to sell....one day I guess. I did put one on ebay a couple of years ago and it sold to a Japanese gent for ?28 I think......

Also I fitted the 'FLY LOTUS' sticker, smaller, about 5 inches and yellow advertising the Total Mobility, bike, car and plane.
Looking back we did have some fun at the factory, health and safety has put pay to that. Well hope I meet some of you on a factory tour.

Hi All,

The nice little plane in the background is also one of Britain's lost little hero's of engineering being a type Beagle B121 Series 2 aircraft and my now very dim memory suggests it was G-AZCL.
