Screen & door glass rubbers

PostPost by: seaandmoor » Fri Dec 01, 2006 3:38 pm

Hello all,
I'd like to get my +2 windscreen refitted with a new suround and sealed. Also the door rubbers which rest against the window glass have perished and need renewal. Both these are necessary to stop water getting into the drivers footwell and down inside the door skins.
Has anyone had this work done by anyone they can recommend?
Ideally somewhere south of a horizontal line through Birmingham and west of a vertical line through Southampton. I did ask Mattys but they said leave alone. However, I'm fed up of bailing and the inside smells of rat's ****.
Any recommendations please? Thanks

I can't recommend anyone but will advise that the screen surround should be done by someone who is very knowledgable in window installation on fiberglass cars. Removing the old seal may lead to your windscreen cracking as it's "stronger" than the bodywork.
If the "door rubbers" are the strips at the base of the side windows, I think you can locate a source for universal rubber automotive rubber seals at an appropriate local parts supplier, or contact various Lotus specialist parts suppliers for information.

Just surfing the other day and found this. Never used it, have no connection with them. might save you pulling the screen - just a thought.

POLYURETHANE ADHESIVE/SEALANT

A universal wonder product for the car builder. Our Polyurethane adhesive/sealant comes in a tube and is dispensed using a regular mastic gun. It is firm enough to form beads so has excellent gap-filling properties and cures to a tough rubbery finish. Use it to bond panels together or to the chassis. Can be thinned to paint a border around inside of windows prior to bonding. Will stick almost anything to anything at half the price of equivalent products.
