Engine Mounts

The new mount on the bottom RH of your photo is for the carb side of a 2 seater Elan with Weber carburettors, it tilts the engine to give clearance under the carbs. For the Plus 2 both mounts should be the same .. as per your old ones.

Thanks. I was clear when I ordered them it for a +2, I'll get back to the supplier.
Many suppliers, including some of the well known specialists don’t understand the requirements for this!
As explained, the new mount on the right of your photo, actually lifts the engine on that side. Required for a two seater with webbers, but if used on a Plus 2 will cause your cam cover to interfere with your bonnet!

Where, then, lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life?

Sorry I was editing my post as you were writing. Yes it will be a problem using the non standard mount!
Take a look at a Plus 2 with the bonnet off sometime. See how high the front of the cam cover on the twink is. It may surprise you?

Not the greatest view, but these are the normal mounts. Hopefully you can see what I mean about the front of the engine sitting high. A ‘highly regarded’ specialist near Peterborough got this wrong earlier in this cars life and caused me a number of problems!
By the way, if you look closely in the parts manual, it’s also pretty clear there what’s required! No criticism of you, but you would imagine the suppliers could read?!
I’d be pretty peed off if I was required to pay to post the incorrect part back to them! I would suggest the cheapest option for them would probably be to let you keep their mistake, and just send you the correct part!

Correct item is being sent out, I have to return the incorrect one but postage will be refunded. Strangely I was also told I could have used the incorrect mounting without any issues.

Yes you can generally tilt up the carb side using the higher engine mount in the plus 2 the same way as it is done in the Elan. However bonnet clearance is tighter on a Plus 2 and lifting the right side of the engine may give you a clearance issue in some cases.

Bonnet clearance from the front of the cam cover is extremely tight on a Plus 2. I have damage on the paintwork of my bonnet to prove it, thanks to a specialist in Whittlesey. Perhaps depending on how the body is shimmed on the chassis, I suppose hypothetically you might ‘just’ get away with it. But it’s still the wrong part, and totally unnecessary!

Mmmm! Why didn’t they just send you the correct part for the car, or inform you they were sending the wrong part, but it would ‘probably work’?

Strange i've used the higher mount on Carb on the 3 different +2s i've owned no problem.
On my Sprint the higher mount is definitely needed on the Carb side.

Interesting, I'll still be fitting the correct one but just shows you there isn't always a definitive answer.
