Seat rivets

PostPost by: Fourducs » Wed Nov 17, 2021 2:07 am

I plan to have some upholstery repair done on my 1969 non federalized Plus 2. I am having difficulty finding pop rivets to match the original ones. The rivet heads are black, made of plastic, and the head of the rivet is approximately 10mm in diameter. Has anyone got a suggestion for a matching rivet source? A USA source would be my first choice.

Are you meaning plastic fasteners to attach the seat back panel to the steel seat frame? On my ‘69 Federal Plus 2 they are similar to these with a centre pin to fix them in the holes. They call them push-type retainers.

I purchased a few different sizes in blister packs from a revolving display at the local parts store, but don’t have an exact call-up. Perhaps there is something suitable here. I found a few sizes handy anyway as some of the holes were enlarged.

Easiest way to remove them is to push the pin thru the hole and pry the fastener free.

You are welcome. Half the battle is always what the darned thing is actually called! :D

Another tip. I bought some plastic rod from the local hobby shop to replace the central pins that are potentially lost during removal. This allows the re-use of any of the fasteners that are not damaged.

Managed to add seat heaters as well, which works great.

Bought mine from Sue Miller, she knew exactly what I wanted and had them in stock.

Fourducs,

If those you find in your home market are not what you need, have a look at the Bresco site in the UK described as push drive rivets.

Hope this helps,
