Tenax studs

PostPost by: milton » Mon Sep 20, 2021 7:46 pm

My S4/Sprint DHC has never had the Tenax studs fitted to the front wings below the windscreen. Are they the same as those fitted to the top of the crash pad and are they fitted with one of the 15mm diameter cup washers?
Thanks
Milton

Yes, here are pictures of what is fitted to my Federal Sprint. They have the 'cup' underneath, with the
exception of the two in the middle of the dash, holding down the vent grills.

Ah yes, next question - how do you get your hand (or some other implement) behind or under the dash and through the nest of wiring to get the nut on the end of the Tenax stud that goes in the front wing in front of the A pillar on the driver's side? My Tenax stud rattled loose and fell off a while back, and while I have been able to get my hand in and under the dash to tighten up the loose nut on the stud on the passenger side, installing a new stud on the driver's side has got me beaten (so far). All helpful suggestions gratefully received (short of removing the dash first!) Thanks, Jonathan

As I found, it requires some ingenuity and dexterity. I had only recently reinstalled the crash pad and dashboard and was wondering why I'd left this job until now. I removed the small air vents from each side of the dash. I have a small torch that I was able lie on the shelf inside the wing and behind the dash so I could see what I was doing. Using some vaseline I stuck a nyloc nut on to the tip of my thumb and was able to work it into the space behind the wing. I could see both the thread on the tenax stud and the nut and was able to thread the stud on to the nut. I suffered some abrasions from the rough fibreglass and it took a few tries but job done!

I have a radio delete plate and its removal made access so much easier. If you have a radio,
well, hopefully it'll come out easy.

Thanks Milton, that's very helpful; I was thinking along those lines, but must try harder - it obviously can be done! Jonathan
