I have now had a good read of my Lancaster Insurance salavage rentention policy and there is no mention that i can see of Flood write off damage not being covered.
The only thing I can remotely find in my policy that could be loosely interpreted in the exclusion statement is the word 'Toxic'..see below, but that is pertaining to nuclear issues and certainly not flooding.
'The radioactive, toxic, explosive or other dangerous properties of nuclear equipment or its nuclear parts'.

What insurance company are you with?
My thoughts are that I think you should legally challenge this, unless of course, your policy specifically does exclude write off due to flooding.
