PostPost by: skyarch » Sat Sep 03, 2022 6:40 pm

IMG_9847.jpg and
I'd like to exchange a nearly mint black, (not repro), nose badge for a nearly mint, (not repro),
yellow and green nose badge. In NJ.
Thanks, Joseph

Hi Steve,
Not really understanding your comment. The photo was taken inside today, the badge is unmarked and all the chrome is clear. Granted that it's not a great photo at low res.
The 'T' seems to be marred, but it's all clear, the center is a shadow from the light above.
Another photo will be taken outside tomorrow.
New photo just added

The original photo posted did look like there was damage to the chrome on the T and on the line underneath. A nice close up would resolve things. As I say good luck.

Badges are not easy things to photograph especially those with chrome lettering that just reflect everything

Here's one of my collection, but I wouldn't swap it for a black one.... sorry! I already have a couple of those in the parts bin, they work nicely on lighter coloured cars.

It is indeed odd

It's an early "flat" enamelled badge produced between the very early painted badges and the later chunkier font enamel badges. Correct for series 2 type 14 and later elevens etc as well as Mk1 Cortinas. The spacing between the T & the U is a bit amateur which points towards an original item. Tony Thompson has reproduced these badges except he corrected the font spacing... silly man! https://www.tonythompsonracing.co.uk/pa ... ct-period/

Yes I agree, the car was yellow by the previous owner, (or two), with a black badge.
The MOT site say's that the car was white when it was last MOT'ed in 1980, they didn't mention the badge color.....
It just came back from the paint shop, it's now Medici blue and the black badge looks a bit heavy!
On the past 3 Lotus I really never thought that the badge was a big deal, 67 S3/SE,SS,DHC, 65 S2, DHC, and a 63 Super Seven, all pre-dated the badge discrepancy.

I sold one of them to Simon AmAn in aid of the Elan 60th celebrations at Hethel :D

I hope that Joseph finds a good home for his black badge, they do look good on the right colour car

If all the stars align, it looks as though I can get one locally.
Thanks for your responses, quite a lively topic!

Have you found a badge as you hoped?

I was looking at my Evora today and, as the letters on the rear are black, that a black badge on the front would look good!

Would you consider a swap if the sizes are the same? However, consider that whilst the overall appearnce of my badge is undoubtedly ‘Lotus’, the font is the new one and might not be good on an Elan…
