GOOD USED TWIN CAM CYLINDER HEADS HAVE OVER THE PAST YEARS BECOME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO FIND. MOST WITH OVER FIFTY YEARS OF USE AND OFTEN ABUSE , HAVE SUFFERED BADLY .
THIS PARTICULAR HEAD HOWEVER HAD SAT UNUSED SINCE THE MID EIGHTIES AND WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. IT HAD BEEN REFACED AT SOME TIME BUT ONLY LIGHTLY. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF CORROSION, NO CRACKS BETWEEN THE VALVES, IT HAD NOT BEEN OVERHEATED WHICH CAN CAUSE THE CASTING TO GO SOFT , NO STRIPPED THREADS OR ANY OTHER DAMAGE OR PREVIOUS REPAIRS.
IT HAS BEEN PRESSURE TESTED AND FULLY OVERHAULED TO INCLUDE THE FITTING OF HARDENED VALVE SEATS AND COLSIBRO BRONZE VALVE GUIDES.
THE VALVE SPRINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH UPRATED ITEMS FROM QED SO THAT HIGHER LIFT CAMS COULD BE FITTED IF REQUIRED . NEW SPRINT SIZE VALVES HAVE BEEN FITTED AND THE HEAD REFACED TO GIVE A COMPRESSION RATIO CLOSER TO THAT OF THE ORIGINAL ELAN SPRINT ENGINE SPEC.
MACHINED TO 4.612” THICK. ( ORIGINAL ELAN SPRINT BEING 4.600”).
NEW INLET AND EXHAUST STUDS HAVE BEEN FITTED TO INCLUDE BRASS EXHAUST NUTS, INLET NYLOCKS AND THACKERY WASHERS TO MOUNT THE CARBURETTORS. ALL CORE PLUGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND THE HEAD HAS BEEN PAINTED IN QED LOTUS GREY.
I had earmarked this head for my S3 Racer ( I was going to fit Q420 cams ) ... but have decided to leave the 450 semi-race head on it ... so , if anyone genuinely needs a beautiful , original , Sprint Spec` Head ( at less than the price of a repro` ! ) , done by the very best ... here`s your opportunity - £2750.00 .
