Ad says it's new, but doesn't state which version or 5th gear ratio option. Happy to forward your ad to some people I know who may be interested, but those are key bits of detail they'll want to know.
Thanks,
John

Just keep in mind that with that version the shift lever will be about 12" back from the std Elan position.

I did the ‘ count the shaft rotations’ and believe the ratios are 1st: 2.93, 2nd: 2.2, 3rd: 1.35, 4th: 1.0, 5th: 0.85
The shifter is very short and should give a real fast slick gearshift. I think that a rearward shift, with the short shift lever, would be near ideal!

Something tells me that the tail section will not fit in a Lotus chassis ?

We must be getting to a point where digital scanning and CNC machining from a billet or digital printing of patterns for casting or direct digital metal printing is viable to recreate the Plus 2 style Lotus tail housing so all those old Elite 5 speed boxes can be used ??
I never went down the road of trying to cut and shut an Elite tail housing as I found a newely rebuilt Plus 2 5 speed cheap a number of years ago so now I have a spare for the Plus 2 or to put in my Elan when I retire from racing
cheers

Bell housings would be trivial in comparison given the number of types of alloy Kent block bell housings around. One must be easily adaptable

Ian, BGH makes several versions of the Type-9. They vary wildly in price (720 GBP -1790 GBP) and power handling capability. Although I know some people with various types of Se7ens who could be interested, they would need to know what they are buying to ensure it would match their diff and engine output. Based on the ratio estimates yo provided earlier, my guess is it's the E2, but is it the Standard Duty, which won't be up to a handling the torque of most Zetec and Duratec powered cars, or the Heavy Duty which is? You can see the info here. Might be worth doing a little more digging. http://www.bghgeartech.co.uk/html/5_speed.html

PM sent - I am in OC as well.
Would like to pick up a 5th gear but unclear if I can fit this into my 1969 Elan.

I think this is possible but not viable and it's unlikely to change in near future. CNC machining would require a large and large/expensive piece of aluminum to start with and then a huge amount of material would need to be removed, so lots of machine time.
I have a friend with a CNC machine that would be capable of producing such a part and if there was demand I am sure he could be pursued to make some. However I'd suspect the cost of just buying an original would be cheaper.
