Lotus Elan

Elan front springs

PostPost by: gjz30075 » Thu Apr 23, 2020 8:28 pm

I have a pair of front springs for an Elan, measuring 15 1/2" free length. They look to be blue
anodized and there are no markings on them anywhere, so I have no idea what the pound
rate is. $35.00US for the pair, plus shipping. Package will be about 8 pounds, shipping from the
30075 zip code in the US.

If you have a set of calipers you can measure the diameter of the wire on the spring and plug that information plus some more information (# of coils and free length and maybe one more variable can’t remember) into an online calculator to get the spring rate.

Ben, so right. So, wire diameter is .34, mean diameter is 2 9/16" (I rounded to 2.5) and active
coils is 20. From various online sites, it looks to be a 90lb rated spring.
