Lotus Elan

Zetec and Scorpio MT75 drivetrain for sale

PostPost by: Pjr » Sat Apr 18, 2020 11:27 am

Hi guys,

My +2 build has been stalled for some time because I bit off a bit more than I could chew with the time/resources available. I’ve decided to go a more ‘original’ route which should be within my capabilities.

Over the last few years I have diligently acquired the following parts to put a Zetec and MT75 into an Elan and ideally I’d like to sell them all together:

- Secondhand 2.0 Zetec blacktop with standard clutch and flywheel still fitted.
-New Retro Ford water rail and thermostat
- New Alternator brackets
- Secondhand RWD sump (Escort if I recall correctly)

- Scorpio MT75 gearbox from a Ford breaker. Has the starter on the correct side and hydraulic clutch provision. Much more useful than the other MT75 boxes - the one to have.
- Home made rear gear change system. I was bored one day and decided to fabricate my own and it actually works quite well - but not tested in action!!!
- spacers fitted behind hydraulic bearing if needed (can’t recall if by this time I was contemplating using a 2000e box)
- brand new Concentric bearing
- Custom Hell hydraulic line.
- used starter that the breaker told me would work with the MT75 and Zetec. Not tested.

- Used Twin Dellorto 45 carbs, jetted for a 2.0 Zetec Blacktop and on a Zetec inlet manifold. Will need a clean and check as I’ve not run them.
- K&N filters and holders. One fixing missing and the filters need replacing or at least cleaning and oiling.

In sum, it’s not everything you need to put a Zetec in an Elan, but it’s a good way there and has taken lots of time and effort to find and collect.

Adding it up on the back of an envelope, I think this cost me somewhere around £1500. Using that as a rough guide, I’m open to reasonable offers.

I am expecting some parts in a pallet/crate next week, so I could probably put these parts on a pallet for your courier to collect. I would think UK collection would be £50-£100 unless you are in a more distant area (I’m paying £90 for a pallet to Gloucestershire from Argyll as an example).

Kind regards,

Phil

I am interested in the starter motor. Do you know what it is, or what vehicle it is from?

Richard,

I’m not sure - the guy did tell me at the time and I recall it seemed obvious to him what I needed (which surprised me). He also reeled off which clutch combinations would work. Wish I’d written that down too! I will look at it in the light and get some numbers off of it.

Thanks,

Phil

I'm interested in the concentric bearing. Are the sheet metal parts to fit between the gearbox and the engine block to fill the space in the front of the bell housing? If so, I'm interested in those too.

thanks

Mike,

I think the metal sheets came off of the Zetec when I changed the sump, so I was keeping them to use as a partial template to make new ones for fitting a 2000e box to the zetec. In short, they may not be terribly useful.

Im working just now, but later I will look at the concentric bearing and get t he part number and make off of it so you know what it is exactly.

Thanks,

Phil

Mike,

Which engine are you fitting your MT75 to? I am fitting an MT75 to a Twin Cam, and have had the plate made that you refer to. The plate needs some extra work, I made an error again. Are you interested?

Hi Phil & Richard,
I'm fitting a Scorpio box to a Silver top Zetec so Phil's parts may be ok. If you could make a 'brass rubbing' on a sheet of paper that would be a useful template for me.

Thanks

Mike,

I can post you a drawing of the plate that fits between the engine and gearbox, and/or I can trace around the plate.

I had to make a drawing so that I could get a machine shop to make the plate for me.

If you send me your postal address I can proceed.

My e-mail is
